Inis Oirr is the smallest of the Aran Island, lying in Galway Bay. It is an outcrop of the Burren and is famous for its stone walls and biodiversity of plant life and wild flowers and is also home to a few Aubrac cows on my small holding. I have had Aubrac cattle for ten years or more and I am still amazed how these beautiful cattle thrive in this landscape. The cattle are out all year round. The cows are given hay and are on winterages, a bit like what happens on the Burren. Small weanlings are given hay and a little supplement. They are very easy to rear and keep their great condition.
