OVER 20 YEARS OF GROWTH

IRISH AUBRAC SOCIETY

image
OUR SOCIETY
image

Formed in 1998, the Irish Aubrac Cattle Breeding Society of Ireland is committed to promoting Aubrac cattle in Ireland. To date, it has achieved reasonable success in this objective and is now on course to making Aubrac cattle a dominant breed in Ireland.

Our new website www.aubrac.ie (launched October 2021) is our main source for all content. We encourage members to register their profile online. They will then be part of our community of members and can discuss all facets of Aubrac related issues in our forum. Also, they will be able to use the classified feature to sell livestock etc.

As the society continues to grow, we continue to create awareness to more and more farmers of the benefits to be gained from breeding Aubracs.

WE'RE SOCIALLY ACTIVE!

Irish Aubrac Society
Tullamore Show - Report 2024 There was notable interest in the Aubrac breed at this year’s Irish Aubrac Cattle Society’s exhibition at the 2024 Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show, which took the form of an array of pedigree showing classes, alongside a suckler pairing display. Staged at Butterfield Estate, Blueball, Co Offaly, on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, Francis Donohoe of the Westmeath-based Johnstown Aubrac herd, alongside Co-Galway-based breeder Sonny Jennings, who farms under the Cahergal prefix, officiated as show judges on the day. Clinching the supreme overall sash in the FBD National Livestock Show Aubrac Champion class 182, sponsored by Edinburgh Outdoor Clothing Company, was Kelly Stephenson, Co Wicklow, with her September 2022-born maiden, by Heritier and a home-bred Glenford Nikita dam. She took home the red rosette in class 178 – pedigree Aubrac maiden heifer born on/after 01-09-2022, sponsored by Lynrea, Clonaslee, Co Laois. On her heels was Angela Kehoe’s pedigree in-calf heifer, Boleyrock Sally, who was tapped out as this year’s reserve overall Aubrac champion, which follows her success at the same show in 2023 as overall Aubrac champion. Boleyrock Sally, born in June 2022, is by the home-bred Boleyrock Prince and Altamont Heidi. She stood at the top of the line-up in class 179 – pedigree Aubrac in-calf heifer, sponsored by EWS Butchers, Co Donegal, for the New Ross, Co Wexford-based breeder.Sally was also one half of the pair that took first prize in class 181—the best pair of animals, property of the same exhibitor and exhibited in previous classes, sponsored by the IFA. Her stable mate, home-bred Stella, born in June 2022, is sired by Boleyrock Nevin, and her dam is the home-bred Boleyrock Lilac. James Lacey, Deerpark Farm, County Tipperary exhibited Deerpark Sophie and Deerpark Summer at the event. Sophie, born in March 2022, is by Shrubbywood Marchi, and the home-bred Deerpark Noreen, herself by Ardleigh Killian. Deerpark Summer, born in April 2022, is by the home-bred Deerpark Paula, herself a Shrubbywood Marchi cow, and Summer’s sire is Curleyland Price, by Finnoe Harry. The heifers stood second and third in their respective in-calf heifer class and were the blue rosette winners in the pairs class, sponsored by the IFA.Class 179 – pedigree Aubrac in-calf heifer, sponsored by EWS Butchers – saw a total of five entries from breeders, Declan Norris, James Lacey and Angela Kehoe. Results for this class: 1st – Angela Kehoe with Boleyrock Stella 2nd – Declan Norris with Comeragh Star 3rd – James Lacey with Deepark Sophie 4th – Angela Kehoe with Boleyrock Sally 5th – James Lacey with Deerpark Summer. Also, we would like to commend the efforts of one of our newest breeders, Declan Norris, who made his debut appearance on the show circuit, with Comeragh Star, an in-calf heifer, by Whitestown Leyland and Altamont Nome. A special thanks to our sponsors for their continued support:- Kildare Logs - Lionel Mackey T/A Eriu Wool - Lynrea, Clonaslee, Co Laois - EWS Butchers - Johnstown Aubracs - IFA - Edinburgh Outdoor Clothing Company. Suckler cow display Jason McEvaddy, Co Mayo and Patrick McGarrigle, Co Donegal each provided a suckler cow pairing for our suckler cow and calf showcase to demonstrate the breed’s abilities within a suckling capacity. Social media contentA gallery of images and videos of the showing classes and suckler display can be viewed on our Facebook page. We also have a video interview with Patrick McGarrigle, on our Facebook page, where he discusses his long-standing involvement with the breed, the current running of his suckler herd, bringing Aubrac progeny through to finish and how Aubracs are performing on the hook with sample kill-out data.
